How the VibrAlign Support Team Gets Technical

The guy in the photo is Peter Eccleston. Peter is the Senior Technical Support Specialist for VibrAlign. Peter and the other technicians in the Repair Group perform calibrations and repair services on all of VibrAlign’s shaft alignment tools. They work hard to make sure your Fixturlaser shaft alignment tool is performing in tip top shape.

So, why is he wearing a hard hat, safety glasses and hearing protection?

And better yet, why is he standing on the deck of an 8 cylinder Caterpillar natural gas engine that is driving a multi-cylinder Ariel Gas Compressor?

Because Peter wants to know.

He wants to know more about aligning machinery. He wants to know how VibrAlign’s customers use their tools. He wants to know more about shaft alignment so he can better answer repair and calibration calls when they come in to VibrAlign. He wants to know how well the laser alignment tool really performs in the field–and you just can’t get that in a repair lab. So Peter came out to a recent XA Pro alignment training class and sat in with the mechanics who were receiving both classroom and hands-on training.

Everyone at VibrAlign really wants to help you do your job better.

Stan Riddle joined VibrAlign in 2008. He has over 35 years experience in aligning industrial machinery. Stan received his AAS Degree in Machinist Technology from Surry Community College in Dobson, NC, and also holds a diploma in Industrial Systems Technology from Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, NC, where he was also an instructor in the program.

Stan began his maintenance career working as a machinist and millwright for companies such as Weyerhaeuser, R.J. Reynolds, and Tyco Electronics. He also has over 25 years experience in Predictive Technologies, such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and ultrasonic inspection. He is a certified Level III Vibration Analyst with the Vibration Institute, and is a Past Chairman and Board Member of the Piedmont Chapter.

Stan and his wife live in Yadkinville, NC.

    Hello Mr Peter! I really appreciate your effort to train and educate for more quality job. We are using fixturlaser (basic model) for quite some time. We love doing alignment with fixturlaser. I would like to know what is the difference between point laser and line laser. Is it that line laser can measure more gross misalignment (in case of cooling tower fans where the distance between machines is more than 3m)

  5. Rao, one of the differences is in the sensor technology. The Fixturlaser XA line uses line lasers and CCD (digital) detectors which aren’t affected by sunlight. The line laser and large linear detector can handle more gross misalignment than the point laser–perfect for cooling towers.
